Produced on the longest-established organic farm in Ireland, which was established by her parents Ben and Charlotte in 1976, Kitty Colchester’s ‘Second Nature’ Happy Heart extra virgin rapeseed oil was an early success story in the new wave of Irish-produced oils and is admired as much for its purity as for its fine flavour and culinary versatility.
Its organic credentials are a particular USP and, before it was even officially launched in 2010, those picky chefs at Euro-Toques fell on it with glee: no potentially hazardous synthetic chemicals, fertilisers or GM seeds are used - and the culinary quality of the oil is ensured by cold pressing the seed weekly, to retain the maximum nutritional value and taste.
And taste good it does, so Euro-Toques Ireland conferred one of their highly valued Food Awards on it. Others followed - it’s done well in the highly respected Great Taste Awards too, for example - and in 2011 it was one of the special products selected to showcase Irish produce at a wonderful State Dinner at Dublin Castle, on the occasion of the first state visit to Ireland by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.
