RE-LAUNCHED AS TABLE WINE - see entry
THE MORNING, next door, is a daytime hatch serving takeaway coffee and baked sourdough goodies
Located on a quiet street off a busy thoroughfare, Kevin Powell and barista Brian O'Keefe's popular cafe is a Wi-Fi free zone and nice place to sit in the morning sunshine and watch the world go by.
Although only open since 2016, it has become a firm favourite and they have expanded into next door where they established Reference Coffee, a roastery and cafe selling a selection of house-baked cakes and coffee to take away.
The choice of coffee roasters is rotated and always good, and chef Kevin Powell and the kitchen team make as much as they can in house serving seasonal fruit sodas on ice, their own nut butters, jams and pickles.
The dishes have a hint of a Nordic aesthetic, with some Middle Eastern influences added. The food is served beautifully presented on simple earthenware plates and brightly coloured vegetables, some pickled, take center stage. Meat is used for accentuation and flavouring rather than being central to the cooking.
For breakfast, expect dishes such overnight oats dressed with thin slivers of apple and a rich, dark nut butter made from nuts roasted in house, or eggs and sautéed greens served with tahini and creme fraice.
Brian O'Keefe and Kevin Powell also operate the terrific Loose Canon wine and cheese venue, on Drury Street.
