Robert and Yvonne Fitzsimmons are renowned for the quality of the free range poultry they produce on their family farm, sold under the East Ferry Free Range banner.
Robert's family have lived at East Ferry Farm for generations and both he and his father (who works with him on the farm) have poultry rearing in their blood. Which is fortunate, as the demand for quality, traditionally raised poultry is rising dramatically as concerned consumers and chefs seek an alternative to intensively reared birds.
Chicken, turkey (white and bronze), goose and duck are all available at various times of year, and also free range eggs.
The chicken, in particular, has met a very ready market - both for its quality in terms of flavour and texture, and its value, as the Fitzsimmons family are keenly aware that, however good, their produce needs to be affordable.
Look out for East Ferry Free Range in butchers and speciality shops in County Cork - and on some of the region's top restaurant menus, as they supply some very discerning chefs.
