With Galway to the west, Clare to the south-west and Athlone and the Shannon lakes to the north-east, there’s an entire region to be enjoyed from Ballinasloe and this modern four star hotel would make a good base for exploring it.
While not exactly waterside, this is an agreeable place to stay whether on business or leisure, with accommodation including two presidential suites and a high proportion of executive rooms, some with balconies; all rooms are well furnished and comfortable, with modern bathrooms.
Head Chef Johnny Harvey is at the helm in the kitchen – whether overseeing fine dining in the Marina Restaurant (weekends), carvery in the Marengo or the more casual fare available in the Canal Bar, which is a pleasant place to relax.
Cooking is above the standard usually expected of an hotel and, while menus are balanced to appeal to all tastes, fish is popular and may include pan fried prawns, fillet of salmon and monkfish. Special value is offered on the early dinner menu and a good breakfast is served in The Marengo Restaurant.
Short breaks and special offers, which will invariably include meals, are an attractive feature of this hotel and the leisure facilities (with 20m pool and children’s pool) and C-Spa will be very welcome after a long day.
