This stylish Mediterranean and tapas restaurant is in a restored listed building just up from the quays, and it’s a favourite spot for many people living in and around Clonmel.
Co-owner and chef, Adrian Ryan, and business partner and restaurant manager, Fulvio Bonfiglio, are thorough professionals who quickly won the hearts of discerning diners in the locality after opening here in 2005 and, thanks to their consistenty high standards of food and hospitality, it's proved to be an enduring success.
Spacious and simply furnished, the restaurant has a small bar, and a pleasant ambience. Adrian’s appealing menus are deliberately restricted, but you’ll find flavoursome comfort food like cassoulet of duck leg confit, Toulouse sausage & pork belly as well as a fresh seafood parpadelle pasta with a crab bisque cream sauce.
Vegetarians are well catered for, too – and look out for the ‘fish of the day’ as Adrian was formerly head chef at the renowned seafood restaurant, Doyle’s of Dingle.
An evening Tapas menu has some interesting choices – Lebanese falafel with a cucumber and mint tzatziki and Moroccan lamb kebabs with chickpea hummus
Local organic ingredients are sourced where possible and the high quality of ingredients, cooking and service (and real value for money), has won them a lot of friends.
The carefully chosen wine list includes a monthly special offer and, all round, Befani’s is a delightful experience with a southern European atmosphere.
