The Kissin Krust

"Proper home baking and well run" is the verdict of one discerning customer and there are plenty who would agree. Well worth a visit.

Established by owner Alma Kinnear in 2004 and now run with her daughter Grace, this little gem is the go-to coffee shop and bakery in the scenic Upper Lough Erne area of Co Fermanagh.

There is nowhere like it for many miles, and this friendly spot attracts customers from all around. The lucky locals pop in for morning coffee and a freshly baked scone, or one of the famous gourmet sandwiches at lunchtime - and there are plenty who can\'t resist the thought of a caramel square wth that afternoon cuppa. And word of mouth has done a good job, so this busy spot has become a destination for visitors too.

"Using the best of local ingredients where possible to create the best of homemade food every day" is the Kinnears' mantra, and that applies to everything from their oven cooked breakfasts (perfect for hungry cyclists and fishermen) to the well stocked deli counter that\'s packed with freshly salads and sandwich fillings for the speciality breads they bake daily, including focaccia, bagels, panini, flat breads and olive ciabatta.

When the lunch menu comes on stream the hot food counter is filled with freshly made pies, bakes, quiches, soups and hot pots of all sorts to set you up for the afternoon.

But, true to the great Ulster baking traditon, perhaps it's the sweet treats that are best of all. With apple tarts, meringues, chocolate brownies, queen of puddings, cheesecakes and gateaux all vying for attention, you'll have plenty to choose from. And then there are those great traybakes that are unique to Northern Ireland - caramel squares, paradise slice, fifteens...

"Proper home baking and well run" is the verdict of one discerning customer and there are plenty who would agree. Well worth a visit.

Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim

Café / Farmshop
Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality.  As relocations go, the move of Liam and Justina Gavin’s modest but deservedly popular Drumanilra Farm Kitchen in Boyle to smart new premises in Carrick-on-Shannon - where the reimagined business opened in late 2021 as Honestly by Drumanilra Farm - was pretty ...
