Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare

Lisdoonvarna (Irish: Lios Dúin Bhearna) is a spa town of 800 people in County Clare. Famous for its music and festivals, in September each year one of Europe's largest matchmaking events is held in the town attracting upward of 40,000 romantic hopefuls, bachelor farmers and accompanying revellers. The month-long event is an important tourist attraction. The current matchmaker is Willie Daly, a fourth generation matchmaker.

It is also on the fringe of the Burren National Park. Lisdoonvarna's famous Victorian Spa Complex and health Centre is set in an attractive parkland setting. The Spa's therapeutic mineral waters of sulphur, iron and magnesium have been dispensed since the 18th century, and the strong smelling sulphur water is served hot and cold in the pump. The source of the water can be viewed in the illuminated well.
