Saturday 23rd - Sunday 31st July 2011
If you’re looking for a fun weekend away with the family this summer then head to Killarney Summerfest, which is gearing up for yet another ‘fun’tastic festival this year in the scenic town of Killarney in Co. Kerry from 23rd to 31st July.
With a great festival atmosphere, outdoor thrills, family activities galore, street performances, music and concerts, it’s the perfect family destination and is expected to draw thousands of people to the town for the festivities again this year, which yet again coincide with the Irish Open at Killarney Golf Course, where some of the world’s leading golfers are expected to attend including, newly crowned US Open champion Rory McIlroy.
One of this year’s main attractions will see Killarney’s town centre being pedestrianised for a free festival where visitors will experience a spectacle like never before as a host of international professional street performers, puppeteers, magicians, musicians and Bui Bolg street theatre performers descend on the town. The Dublin Gospel Choir, Ceile and the Garda Band will also amp up the fun as they play at the music stage, and there will be a kids games area, magic, fun and frolics at every corner.
There will be a wide range of activities taking place in Killarney for the duration of the week to keep the kids amused, including arts & creativity workshops, a Teddy Bears Picnic in Killarney National Park, a hurling exhibition and a Summercamp with everything from kickboxing to jewellery making, party baking, swimming and games in the park.
Killarney Summerfest will also present a Celtic Rock weekend in the INEC with Big Country and The Devlins playing on Friday July 29th whilst Simple Minds, Cry Before Dawn and Cactus World News will perform on Saturday July 30th.
And if your family loves the great outdoors, then you can enjoy a number of organised adventures from kayaking across the Lakes of Killarney, to horse riding in Killarney National Park, rock climbing The Gap of Dunloe, taking part in The Kerry Way, and a 5k Fun Family Run!
