The Cresswell family of Ummera Smoked Products are well known for thir superb smoked speciality foods, notably eel (when available) and organic salmon. The Irish Food Writers' Guild selected the Ummera Smoked Silver Eel for a Good Food Award in 2007. Since then a total ban on eel fishing has been imposed in the Republic, for conservation reasons, so smoked Irish eel is the one product you're not likely to find here in the forseeable future - all eel currently smoked in Ireland is imported, mostly from Northern Ireland where the ban has not been applied.
Anthony Cresswell's father began smoking and selling a variety of products in the 1970s; Anthony, whose first career was in the wine business, then joined him In the 1980s to develop the smokehouse. Since then Ummera has grown steadily, gaining a reputation for the excellence of its smoked products and, along the way, winning quite a number of international awards including success at the Great Taste Awards in several years, for their organic smoked salmon, their Smoked Wild Atlantic salmon (also now a rarity) and their Smoked Silver Eel. Whatever Anthony Cresswell and his team turn their hands to they do it well and, while the range offered may vary depending on the availaibility of quality raw produce, anything with the Ummera Smoked Products branding on it will be of an exceptionally high standard and with no artificial preservatives.
Products normally available include Smoked Organic Salmon,Organic Gravadlax, Smoked Chicken, Smoked Duck and Smoked Dry Cured Bacon. All are available at a range of outlets in Ireland, and also for direct sales from the Smokehouse.
