“Anything But Ordinary” is how owners Frankie and Josephine Whelehan describe their stylishly appointed 42-room townhouse, The Wilder.
Combining heritage features and elegance with modern comforts, this Victorian gem is just a short stroll from St Stephen's Green, Dublin’s premier shopping area and many of the city’s finest restaurants and attractions.
No expense or TLC has been spared in restoring the old building and the result makes a refreshing alternative to a hotel stay, with loads of personality and quirky details - and warm and friendly staff to match.
Accommodation varies from compact ‘Shoebox’ rooms to luxurious suites and, although each room had its own individuality and charm, all have air conditioning, safe, Nespresso machine, hairdryer and a range of the gorgeous Replica By Maison Margiela Paris products, as well as complimentary mineral water, tea, coffee and delicious homemade biscuits to enjoy.
When it comes to food and drink, The Gin and Tea Rooms offer a chic haven to relax and enjoy a quiet drink - and, perhaps, a light bite to eat. A short but carefully considered menu offers a range of platters - Irish Farmhouse Cheese Board, Smoked Irish Salmon from Connemara, a Charcuterie Plate or Gourmet Soup & Sandwich of the Day - which provide a simple but tasty alternative to dining out, although there's no shortage of excellent restaurants nearby.
Home baked goods and Irish produce also feature in the delicious breakfast served each morning, which offers an attractive buffet display set up on an oval antique table and a menu of cooked-to-order breakfast ranging from overnight porridge oats (soaked in almond milk with cinnamon and raisins, so suitable for vegans), to the Full Irish and half a dozen brunch-style egg dishes including Eggs Royale (with smoked salmon), the Wilder Crepes (freshly made pancakes with fruit compote and maple syrup) and the ever-popular smashed avocado & eggs, with sourdough, fresh chilli flakes and vine tomatoes.
A special address for discerning visitors to Dublin 2.
