Since the 1950s, the Wheelock family's fruit farm near Enniscorthy has been a trusted local supplier of quality fruit, especially the famous Wexford strawberries. But it's been all change since 2018, when Cyril and Margaret Wheelock reinvented the business as The Village at Wheelocks, where visitors can pick their own fruit, learn a little more about where our food comes from, have some freshly prepared seasonal food in their daytime café-restaurant and farm shop, and explore their 17 acres of forest and riverside walks.
Handily located just off the M11 near Enniscorthy, and with plenty of parking, it has become a popular meeting place for locals and makes an ideal journey break, especially for families as there's plenty of outdoor space for children to run around and let off steam.
Wheelocks are members of both Taste Wexford tastewexford.ie) and The Wexford Food Family (wexfordfoodfamily.com) and, as well as selling their own seasonal produce and homemade jams, the farm shop stocks other food products from local suppliers, alongside crafts and gifts.
The welcoming big café-restaurant serves wholesome freshly made meals and home baking - and you'll spot respected local suppliers, including O'Neills bacon and Killowen yogurt, on the menus.
The Village at Wheelocks can be an ideal place for a quick journey break - but, with 17 acres of woodland walks, farm animals to visit and and activities for the kids, it's worth allowing time to explore it properly.
