Coming into the picturesque village of Naul, the eye is immediately drawn to a quaint thatched cottage which is in fact The Séamus Ennis Arts Centre (TSEAC). Named after the village’s most famous son, the legendary musician, this is a wonderful cultural centre owned and operated by Fingal County Council. It runs a full programme of events, workshops, exhibitions and all manner of entertainment both indoors and under the permanent sheltered stretch tent.
In an ideal world this type of vibrant cultural centre would contain an equally vibrant and high quality café and the great news is – it does. The Cottage Café, located in part of the original thatched cottage is a true delight, offering tasty and wholesome food in charming surroundings at very reasonable prices. It is a sister to Rosie McNerney's well-known café/deli operation The Cottage in Swords and Malahide and run by the same family, carrying pretty much the same menu and, critically, the same delicious home baked breads and cakes.
From the all day breakfast to the small but excellent range of sandwiches, this is a well thought out and enticing menu with something to hit the spot for every hungry visitor. Usually a daytime only venue, The Cottage co-ordinates with evening events offering pre-show dinners. There’s also the odd afternoon tea special such as the Easter wreathmaking Crafternoon Tea.
The welcome is warm at The Cottage and the fascinating Séamus Ennis Arts Centre makes Naul village well worth seeking out.
