Centrally located with views over St Stephen's Green at the front and its own private gardens at the back, this small privately-owned hotel - which is in an elegant Georgian terrace on the south side of the historic Green and has fine period reception rooms - offers moderately priced accommodation of a good standard, with all the usual amenities and helpful, friendly and efficient staff.
In the care of the current owners Stauntons has received a lot of TLC, including major work to the frontage onto St Stephen's Green which was completed in 2019 and is now a great point of pride.
Another is the quality of their breakfast, which is served in two adjoining high-ceilinged rooms, one facing St Stephen’s Green, the other with views over the gardens. It's mainly table service, with orange juice, fresh fruit salad, natural yogurt, freshly baked breads and cakes served to your table, along with teas and coffees.A menu offers cooked-to-order dishes including the Full Irish, of course (or a mini Irish on request), also other breakfast favourites such as smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, eggs florentine, an excellent porridge with fruit and honey, omelettes and French Toast. A selection of charcuterie and cheese (including blue cheese) is also available and the quality of everything is excellent.
There is also a lounge area alongside the breakfast rooms, where you may order a drink (wines and spirits available) from the small bottle bar and relax in the very comfortable armchairs.
Stauntons is in the heart of the business and banking district, and the Grafton Street shopping area is just a stroll across the Green - and, in addition to a number of well-established places of interest including The Little Museum of Dublin (across the Green) and the National Concert Hall, a recently opened attraction is the nearby Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI), which is well worth a visit. .
Meeting rooms are available, with secretarial facilities on request - and there's private parking. (Valet parking service offered - it would be wise to phone ahead with your time of arrival to arrange this, as there is no parking at the door).
