The name says it all really - Marie and Bart O’Sullivans' upmarket B&B, SeaClusion, takes full advantage of its scenic location overlooking Ballinskelligs Bay and provides a very comfortable base for discerning visitors to this famous little town.
Marie and Bart are experienced hospitality professionals and it shows. Immaculately maintained and spacious, with outdoor seating for fine weather and plenty of room to relax indoors on chilly days, the comfort of guests comes first here and there's an emphasis on quality everywhere you look.
Calming sea themes of white and blue and grey throughout the property are warmed by striking artwork and fresh flowers, and the smart guest rooms have everything you could need, including comfortable beds that can be configured as doubles or twins as required. Also a couple of armchairs and a low table, along with bottled water, tea-making facilities with a choice of teas and a couple of little snack bars. While watching television won't be a priority for most guests to the Ring of Kerry, the neat wall-mounted TV will be welcome at times and the WiFi is excellent. No baths in the roomy en-suites, but power showers along with plenty of warm towels and quality toiletries.
And then there is breakfast...Bart is a chef so bring a good appetite when you come down to the well appointed breakfast room, and allow time to enjoy it. The menu is extensive for a small property, with a focus on local ingredients - Burke's Butchers breakfast meats, Forest Farm free range eggs - and there's something for everyone, including a Veggie Breakfast variation on the Traditional Irish Breakfast, and other options like pancakes, French toast and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. It's all cooked to order (no buffet), but all the familiar buffet items like Flahavans porridge, or fresh fruit salad with homemade granola and yoghurt are served to your table, along with a range of fresh breads and pastries - and there are herbal teas as well as regular teas and coffees.
Many visitors to Waterville already know their way around - golf is a key attraction, after all - but there's masses to explore. Not to be missed, for example, is Derrynane House (once home to Daniel O’Connell, 'The Liberator'), also the blue flag Ballinskelligs Bay, superb walks, scenic drives along the Skellig Way and then Valentia Island... And that's just the beginning. But Marie and Bart will gladly fill you in on how to make the best of your visit - perhaps including calling in to a local brewery, or one of their favourites among the area's excellent restaurants and bars...
