Two places in Westport feel like walking into a Parisian establishment – one of those is Cornrue Bakery, of award-winning sourdough fame, and the other is Savoir Fare on Bridge Street.
Savoir Fare is not easy to buttonhole - for a small shop, it packs a pretty big punch. Café, delicatessen, purveyors and makers of very fine food indeed.
From the understated outdoor appearance right through to the chic French wine themed interior, Alain Morice has created a little piece of heaven with more than a nod to his French father. The small deli area has a superb choice of carefully chosen cheeses, French style baking made in house and an appetising selection of charcuterie, terrines, home cured meats - and always including Alain’s signature pâté en croute. Platters and picnics are also available. Unsurprisingly wines are an important part of their offering, an interesting and slightly eclectic choice
The café part with just a handful of tables bustles with activity and lively chatter from regulars. A small menu always features soup, a pâté en croute, a hot dish of the day – organic chicken with dauphinoise potatoes and sublime gravy perhaps. Seasonal, local and organic are the drivers – Alain’s passions.
Occasional special events including food and wine (or local Mescan beer) pairings have taken place online in recent times, but would normally be in Savoir Fare.
During the protracted 2020 lockdowns, Savoir Fare offered a no waste takeaway dinner menu each weekend, presented in lovely glass jars. Typically they avoided the easy route and for the best part of a year never repeated their dishes.
