Beautifully located overlooking Lough Foyle, on the shore side of the scenic route that runs up the eastern coast of the Inishowen peninsula, this modern hotel is near the traditional holiday town of Moville - yet, surrounded by extensive grounds and its own 9-hole parkland golf course, it’s in a world of its own.
Popular with locals as well as people on leisure breaks, the hotel can be very busy as weekends, especially when there is a wedding in progress, but mini breaks offer good value for accommodation, dinner and a spa treatment or a round of golf, and a much calmer atmosphere too. Good deals can be had at the weekends though too – ask what’s available when you make a reservation.
It’s an attractive, comfortable and family-friendly hotel, with spacious public areas and good amenities. Bedrooms, which are contemporary and comfortably furnished, have been refurbished recently and most have wonderful views. Suites and family rooms (or suites) are available and some rooms have balconiesll have good in-room facilities including broadband, satellite TV and tea/coffee trays.
The hotel's Thalasso Spa makes full use of the lovely waterside location, as does the room used for wedding receptions. A swimming pool, gym and conference facilities round out the offering..
The hotel has established a reputation for good food and the range of options available include casual fare in the Captain's Bar and 'Afternoon Tea by the Sea' as well as the fine dining restaurant, The Edge.
The Edge Restaurant is a destination in its own right, with a thoughtful, varied and good-value menu and an enviable location right on the edge of the lough, and a long wall of windows to take advantage of the view.
While the ambience is relaxed, in true Donegal style, it's a very professional operation with well trained staff providing excellent service and terrific cooking of the region's great seasonal produce by Head Chef Gordon Smyth and his team. Stylishly presented with all the little extras that make a meal into a special occasion, this is definitely an experience that should be factored into every stay. A good breakfast is also served in the restaurant, providing a scenic start to the day.
It all adds up to a desirable destination, especially at quieter times, and the setting is relaxing as well as beautiful, offering shoreside walks as well as golf. It’s an ideal spot if you are touring the Wild Atlantic Way, as it’s located right at the northern end.
