Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality.

Originally a butchers providing a direct outlet for meats from the Bowman family's farm, this is now a busy one-stop farm shop offering locally produced vegetables in season, home bakery and ready meals as well as the meats that made their name.

Own-farm and in-store products are at the core of the business, augmented by carefully selected produce from other local farmers and artisan suppliers who are proudly credited; with a slogan like 'Meet our producers - good food begins with our suppliers' it's not surprising that they win accolades.

Beef is matured for at least 30 days - it can be seen dry-ageing, through a viewing window in the farm shop - and other specialities include thick-cut bacon and slow-growing breeds of turkey, produced on the Bowman farm for Christmas.

There's also a gift shop (quite a few imports on the shelves there) and an all day café, serving home-made soups, brown bread, carvery style lunches, desserts and freshly baked scone and tray bakes.

Also at: Dobbies Garden World, Lisburn.
