In north County Meath, on the border with Cavan and Westmeath, the extraordinary Loughcrew Estate is the location of the largest complex of ancient passage graves in Ireland - and also home to a very modern adventure centre, complete with zipwire.
And its credentials don’t end there. St Oliver Plunkett was born and raised here - couples renting the property for their wedding can get married in his 17th-century church, in the gardens.
Thanks to the current owner Emily Naper and her late husband, Charles, Loughcrew is now accessible to all - the gardens are open to the public and the Lime Tree Coffee Shop, which serves tasty fare, also acts as a reception centre for everything on the estate.
An amazing place.
