There is a community feel to the charming Little Bird Café. It is full of locals, most of them quietly nodding to the tables next to them as they sit down with a book, or with a friend for a catch up over a rice bowl, that week’s special (glazed slices of aubergines with couscous, feta, spicy harissa dressing and lots of herbs and pomegranate seeds for that burst of extra joy), or a plate of French toast laden with glossy summer fruit and mint and a generous serving of ice cream.
Vegetables are at the heart of the ethically sourced food here and are treated with respect, knowledge and good seasoning.by talented chef Eoin Meldon and his team. They are the star of the show and the food on everyone else’s table will also be colourful and interesting.
The most expensive dish will set you back a very reasonable €11 or so for a generous portion of truly great food that leaves you energised and raring to go. This is a casual spot and everyone is welcome, the buzz is friendly and dogs big and small are welcome and greeted with a bowl of water.
You can expect to spend a very pleasurable hour or two at the Little Bird Café, sampling the food and large selection of minerals, Wall & Keogh teas and Badger & Dodo coffees, either outdoors weather permitting, or indoors, in their bright and airy dining space.
