O’Connell’s renowned fish stall began life over 40 years ago, started by the late Kay O’Connell, mother of Paul and Pat, who run it today.
Pat O'Connell's meeting with Britain's Queen Elizabeth here at their English Market stall on May 20th, 2011, made international news and produced the iconic image of the official visit - of the Queens sharing a laugh with him. He has since published a book, which met with her approval and an invitation to Buckingham Palace followed.
O’Connell’s stall stretches to an impressive eighty feet in length offering a vast range of fresh whitefish and shellfish with live lobster, crab and oysters available from a tank in-store.
They also sell smoked and frozen fish, and have recently added a seafood delicatessen, which brings a contemporary dimension to the business.
