Co Offaly is home to some outstanding dairy producers – one of the best known is the Cleary family’s Glenisk Organic Dairy, which is situated beside the family farm at Killeigh and is Ireland’s largest organic dairy food producer.
Totally committed to the organic philosophy (“we have a vision of an Organic Ireland, where the future health and wellbeing of all our children is assured”), the Cleary products include cows’ milk and yogurt, a children’s range – yogurt and fromage frais – and goats’ milk and yogurt.
Glenisk works with about 50 organic farmers and uses 90% of all Irish organic milk production in their popular range of products. Sufficiently well known and on a scale to compete efficiently with mainstream products, they say: “Yesterday, we were seen as an alternative business, but today it seems that more and more people are choosing organic food...”
And their delicious products, which are readily available from supermarkets and independent food stores, have attracted well-earned acclaim, including an Irish Food Writers’ Guild Award Award.
