Run by the Kirwan family, who also operate the long-established Kirwan’s Fish Cart fishmonger right next door, this stylish seafood restaurant is proving a welcome addition to Drogheda’s town centre.
It’s a small but handsome space, with one wall of solid brick and a big window at the front that lets in plenty of natural light and prevents it from feeling cramped. Tables are limited, so ring ahead to book one or else be prepared to wait, because this is a popular and busy spot in the town centre.
Not surprisingly, seafood is given star billing on the short menu. Choose from seafood chowder, prawns pil pil, smoked mackerel paté and calamari to start, or Kirwan’s fish pie, fish ’n’ chips, pan-fried fillet of hake, a seafood burger and a daily special for mains.
But just in case someone in the group isn’t a fish fan, there is also a chicken burger and steak sandwich on offer. To finish on a sweet note there’s a tarte au citron, brownie, Bakewell tart or mixed berry pavlova and the coffee is from 3FE. They also offer a small selection of dishes for takeaway.
