Denotes genuine Irish food culture, ie special Irish food products/companies/producers, and highlights the best places to shop for regional and artisan foods; the selection excludes obvious 'non-Irish' elements regardless of quality, eg ethnic restaurants and specialists in coffee, wine and other drinks, unless relevant to local production or history. Eat & Stay establishments are chosen for their commitment to showcasing local produce and Irish hospitality. Serious About Seafood

Since 1989 this highly regarded small family run business in the outskirts of Ardglass has been supplying some of the best fresh local seafood to leading hotels and restaurants in the region.

The range they stock is wide (and includes exotics) but the products that have earned them a place on the top menus are local - notably their crab and smoked salmon, as well as langoustine (‘scampi’/Dublin Bay prawns) and white fish landed at Ardglass.

Owner Marty Johnston has featured on food programmes, and some of their smoked fish products have achieved recognition at the Great Taste Awards, including undyed smoked haddock fillets and smoked scallopmeat (2003), hot smoked salmon (2008) and smoked cod (2012).

Although sold mainly to the catering trade, their products are often mentioned on menus just as ‘Marty Johnston’ or ‘Ballyhornan’ without further explanation, and it is useful to have some background.
