Daddy’s opened in the winter of 2019, shortly before the world turned upside down, and it is as credit to the team that they are still thriving.
Daddy’s is located in The Circular, a pub you will find on, you guessed it, the Rialto end of South Circular Road in the ever-bustling Dublin 8. Daddy’s is of its day, it serves remarkably well sourced Irish ingredients cooked to perfection, the staff is flamboyantly colourful but also warm and thoughtful and with an eye for detail.
The kitchen is run in a democratic fashion, in that there are no head chefs, every one is a chef, and everyone has a voice. The owner, Colm Keane cares for his team and Daddy’s is about pride, not about ego and you can taste that in every single dish.
A who’s who of Irish food producers is gathered by the clued-in kitchen team to make up an appetising lunch/brunch menu. From day one, Daddy’s has been serving classics such as mashed eggs in a cup, Turkish eggs (poached eggs served on yoghurt with a chili brown butter with a side of toasted sourdough), the free-range sausage sambo and the roast free range chicken sandwich. Those crow pleasers are paired with some of the best tarts available in the city. They change weekly in line with what is good, in season and available. Similarly, the cakes (often simple loaf styles) change regularly.
Once you’re done eating, it’s time to start shopping as Daddy’s also run a small take away pantry (thank you Covid flipping) which stocks most of the ingredients you find on the menu along with a few more highly desirable items.
Overall, Daddy’s is a great spot for everyone and it should make it your business to go eat everything you can from that gorgeous menu.
