Set in its own grounds, away from the hustle and bustle of the town, this attractive family-run hotel was established in1962 by Michael and Margaret Loughnane. Their son - the present owner, Willie Loughnane - and his sons are now maintaining the traditions of hands-on hospitality built up over half a century.
A handsome Georgian building with newer extensions and well maintained gardens, it's impressive from the road and - with spacious and attractively furnished public areas providing plenty comfortable seating, and a welcoming fire in winter - always gives a good impression on arrival.
The accommodation is also furnished to a high standard, and well suited to a wide clientele, from business guests to romatic getaways. The premium Georgian Suites have either a sleigh bed or an original four-poster and a separate sitting room with floor-to-ceiling Georgian windows overlooking the gardens, while the six family rooms make this an excellent base for family holidays in the Midlands area. The leisure facilities are excellent and there's a kids' club during school holidays and mid-term breaks.
Also popular venue for conferences and weddings, a range of event and suites cater for up to 400 (banqueting)/550 (theatre style).
Cooke’s Restaurant on the first floor is in the capable hands of Head Chef Jason Daly who focuses on local quality ingredients, where possible, and good bar food is available all day in Bar 62, a lively place that is the heart of this comfortable hotel. Afternoon Tea is also popular (must pre-book; €15 per person).
The leisure centre offers a pool and gym among its amenities, also aqua classes for Springs Leisure Club members (free to hotel residents); treatment rooms are open seven days a week with hair styling and nail bar also available.
Special breaks offer especially good value.
