Visitors to Howth tend to stay around the harbour area, but there are some nice little restaurants and shops 'up in the village'. Just above the church, past the flower shop, this prettily presented independent food store, deli and café is where locals go for the top quality foods, wines and treats that wouldn't be in supermarkets.
Speciality foods include a good range of Irish artisan produce and you'll spot many favourite brands there (Sheridans, Glenilen, Brady Family, Cookies of Character...) alongside comparable items from, say, Wales and Scotland. There is also a great deli range, and some excellent ready meals and tempting desserts.
There's also a catering menu, and a hamper service.
No outside tables, but a pair of sturdy benches under jaunty striped awnings invite customers to sit and enjoy a gourmet sandwich, or other treats from the deli counter, and the upstairs café is a pleasant meeting place serving deliciously simple freshly prepared food and drinks in a friendly atmosphere. Open from early in the morning, it's a popular spot for breakfast, or just to pick up a coffee to go.
