Deirdre McConvey's chic basement café beside O’Brien’s Sandwich Bar on Belfast’s Chichester Street is a real hidden gem.
It’s a small shop with just two tables for customers to sit and have hot chocolate or Suki Tea, with whatever artisan sweet treat takes their fancy.
You can hear the smash of couverture chocolate in the workshop behind the curtain, and the shelves are lined with gifts like white chocolate golf balls and bars of gourmet chocolate.
Master Chocolatier Deirdre McConvey uses only the finest single-estate Madagascan chocolate in her award-winning creations like Passion Fruit, Ginger and Champagne truffles and Salted Caramel Pecan Brownies. She has won a coveted 3 star Great Taste Award for her Whiskey Truffle, and two 1 star awards for her Ginger Truffle and a Florentine.
Word is spreading about this gourmet chocolate boutique and Deirdre has both a loyal band of local customers and a growing tourist trade. Lots of customers take away gift boxes and order corporate gifts...
This is haute chocolate couture.
