This privately owned modern hotel is close to the sea, overlooking Rosscarbery Bay (although not on the sea side of the road), and it's an attractive building with spacious public areas enhanced by artwork of local interest, and the comfortable bedrooms - many of which have sea views - have everything that's needed. It is currently in the hands of a pro-active management team, who work hard to raise and maintain standards, although it is always busy so some degree of wear and tear is to be expected.
The wide range of outdoor activities available in the area includes horse riding, cycling, golf, pitch & putt, woodland trails, garden visits and water sports such as kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. And, should the weather disappoint, good facilities in the leisure centre offer alternatives for families - and a Kids Club operates during the school holidays.
Led by talented head chef Laurentiu Samolia, an engaged kitchen team champions sustainable, locally sourced food, and - as well as a diverse offering that includes Afternoon Tea (daily) and Brunch (weekends), as well as a full à la carte and children's menu in the Kingfisher Bistro - the Celtic Ross become a destination for Terrace Dining. A permanent food 'truck', CRAFT (Celtic Ross Artisanal Food Truck) is stationed outside the hotel and it has earned a reputation for the high quality of the casual food served for takeaway or to enjoy on site.
In the bar you'll find a good choice of craft beers and ciders, and gin and whiskey menus are offered alongside wines and cocktails. Music every weekend too.
All round, a really good base for exploring West Cork.
