Caviston's of Sandycove has long been a mecca for lovers of good food - here you will find everything that is wonderful, from organic vegetables to farmhouse cheeses, cooked meats to specialist oils and other exotic items. But it was always for fish and shellfish that Cavistons were especially renowned - even providing a collection of well-thumbed recipe books for on-the-spot reference.
At their little restaurant next door, they serve an imaginative range of healthy seafood dishes influenced by various traditions and all washed down by a glass or two from a very tempting little wine list.
Head chef Noel Cusack's food at Cavistons is simple, colourful, perfectly cooked - it speaks volumes for how good seafood can be.
Start with Cavistons smoked salmon plate, perhaps, or tasty tian of crabmeat with mango salsa and lemon mayonnaise, then follow with seared king scallops with ginger, lemon & coriander cream - or a more traditional panfried haddock fillet with tartare sauce.
This Dublin restaurants gorgeous desserts include like chocolate and hazelnut roulade with chocolate sauce, or you can finish with a selection of Cavistons cheeses (they sell a great range in the shop).
Don't expect bargain basement prices though - this may be a small lunch time restaurant, but the prime ingredients are costly - and it's a class act.
