Brian Wickham’s fine old house is just across the bridge from Dungarvan town centre - it is of great historical interest, and set in wonderful gardens, right on the water.
The house has a homely feel with lots of local information, and a lovely all-year conservatory with views over the gardens and harbour.
The traditionally furnished bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, with beautiful views out over the water; they include rooms for families or groups and, as well as en-suite facilities, there’s an extra communal bathroom with a full bath for anyone who prefers it to a shower.
Old houses can be difficult to upgrade, but Brian is well up to the challenge and every year sees a number of ingeniously executed small improvements which make a big difference to guest comfort (by enlarging bathrooms a little, and reorganising their amenities, for example).
Recently redecorated bedrooms are bright and cheerful with fashionable large-pattern wallpaper and new soft furnishings, and the owner's space is separate - allowing for a comfortable sitting room with an open fire, exclusively for guests' use.
The gardens, which enjoy a micro-climate that allows many ‘impossible’ plants to survive here, are Brian’s greatest love and a source of great pleasure to guests.
Although now self-catering only - so missing the particular pleasure of Brian's breakfasts - this is a special place to stay.
