An exciting new venture for Tramore native Peter Hogan and his wife Jumoke Akintola Hogan, this is the glamorous younger sister of their much-loved little gourmet fish and chipper Fish Shop in Dublin's Smithfield.
Despite having to close temporarily only a week after opening in spring 2020, Beach House was a very welcome arrival in Tramore and it hit the ground running, with many fans making a point of getting to enjoy the new experience as soon as possible.
The classic cream-painted Victorian townhouse makes a lovely setting for their good food and hospitality, with their trademark pared-back decor and simply laid pine tables keeping the focus on the food - and, although it's a long way from the Blackrock Market stall they started with in 2013, the principles of simplicity and sustainability are unchanged.
The main dining room is on the first floor and a short dinner menu (c.£49) is served here on late week evenings. Expect plenty of local fish and seafood, including some less usual varieties, and also other regional foods in season - notably the wonderful late season hill lamb from the Comeragh Mountains, which is always such a treat - and creative vegetarian cooking too.
Downstairs, on the lower ground floor, the Hogans are able to offer a more informal Cellar & Garden experience, serving boards - salumi and/or cheese, hot plates from the kitchen and some carefully selected wines and cocktails. With outdoor seating (and the pleasing sight of the raised beds that will be supplying a fair amount of kitchen produce next year), this relaxing option is open on Thursday nights and for longer hours over the weekend.
All round, this young business is a great addition to a town - and an area - with a growing reputation as a food-.lovers' destination.
