Max and Susanne Runske's charming home is located very close to neighbouring Ballymaloe House, making it ideal for a wide range of guests - so, whether you're a casual visitor coming to explore the area, a student at nearby Ballymaloe Cookery School (or Darina Allen's new Ballymaloe Organic Farm School) or attending an event at Ballymaloe House, this beautifully renovated cottage could be just the spot for both short and longer stays.
Max and Susi have done a fantastic job on the house, which is set in pretty gardens and has a lovely stylish scandi ambience and many thoughtful details in every area, to make it superbly comfortable and relaxing.
The three bedrooms are all very different, with each one meticulously planned to make the best possible use of all available space - and smart modular shower rooms for all three. The options cover all bases - a spacious double room with king size bed for couples, one family room with a both king size bed and a single, and also a cleverly designed bunk room which would be ideal for kids, friends travelling together or perhaps a longer stay for students.
Dogs are welcome, subject to house rules - most importantly your dog needs to be friendly to other dogs and children and, while allowed in rooms, they are not allowed on beds and must not be left alone in the guest area. All very sensible, and a dog bed, towels and dog shower are provided to help ensure a happy stay.
Light refreshments only in rooms (coffee, tea and milk, fruit bowl, snacks) but the large, well-equipped new kitchen and dining/lounge area is lovely, and there are great places for casual bites nearby too - notably (a must-visit place for the Guide when we're in the area) Carewswood Garden Centre just outside Castlemartyr, which is not only one of the best garden centres in the country but also has a deservedly popular all-day cafe...
