While its proximity to the famous Marian Shrine is undoubtedly a draw for many guests to this pleasing modern hotel just outside Knock village, so too is its convenience for Ireland West Airport and its location just off the N17.

Knock House Hotel is a well-run, comfortable 3 star where friendly staff, a warm welcome, good facilities and a large restaurant make it popular for weddings and family gatherings, as well being a good base to explore the west.

Set in lovely well maintained gardens, it gives a good impression on arrival and the public areas are welcoming, with comfortable seating, fresh flowers and soft lighting in the lobby making it a pleasant meeting place.

Some of the spacious guest rooms overlook the Basilica and accommodation is organised in several configurations to suit different types of traveller, including business guests, with TV, tea/coffee making facilties and immaculate bathrooms with bath and overhead shower.

Food at the pleasantly bright and airy Four Seasons Restaurant is traditional. with an emphasis on hearty portions and tasty crowd pleasers like roast dinners, burgers and pasta, while desserts include ever-popular apple pie and cream, and daily specials such as Bailey’s cheesecake.

It is good, unpretentious rural hotel fare elevated by the care that is taken with both cooking and presentation, and details like lovely homemade breads stand out. Attentive staff are a real asset and this feels like a place where they know their customer base well and do everything possible to please.

The clean, well-appointed bedrooms, ample free parking and friendly staff who take time to chat all make this cheerful three star a good option as a base for a quiet, moderately priced break, or when heading to the increasingly popular Ireland West Airport.
