Formerly The Mill Times, this well located boutique hotel hit the ground running when it opened under new management in June 2020, re-named The Mariner.
With a great welcome and hands-on hospitality from General Manager Colette Cave and friendly staff who care (together with 24 hour parking across the road, at a very reasonable rate), it makes a pleasant and well-priced base to explore the area and is within walking distance of all the town's attractions.
Smart, contemporary public areas include a popular bar & bistro, The Curious Fish, serving very good daytime fare as well as breakfast and brunch menus for both residents and non-residents, and an appealing dinner menu with a special section for children. House policy is to support local producers and house specialties include a seafood chowder that's worth a special journey and served with their own excellent brown bread.
Very comfortable rooms with fresh appeal are offered in several configurations (double, double with single and family) with varying bathrooms. The Premium King comes with a free standing bath and separate shower, while Family rooms have overbath showers and Classic rooms have just a rainfall shower - but what a great shower it is and, very thoughtfully, the controls are on an adjacent wall so you can get the temperature right before stepping in. Also selected with care, the complimentary toiletries come in recycled packaging and they are vegan friendly and biodegradable. All rooms have tea / coffee making, a safe, plenty of desk space (with a comfortable chair), a huge smart TV and top of the range WiFi, so all bases are covered for business as well as leisure.
All round this boutique three star hotel is a very pleasant place to stay.
