Wexford, Co. Wexford
Wexford (derived from Old Norse: Waes Fjord, also Irish: Loch Garman, Latin: Menapia) is the county town of County Wexford. It is situated at the mouth of the River Slaney near the south-eastern tip of Ireland, close to Rosslare Europort. Recently Wexford enjoyed a building boom resulting in new developments across the county and town.
Wexford is an energetic, cosmopolitan mix of old and new cultures. The ancient town of Wexford is lively and picturesque with narrow cobbled streets and quaint pubs. Every year the town hosts the Wexford Opera Festival, attracting music lovers and revellers from all over the world. The history of Wexford goes back to pre-Christian times, as a trip to the Irish National Heritage Park in nearby Ferrycarrig will illustrate.
From the famous backdrop of the sleepy spires of the Twin Churches to the award winning Quay-Front in Wexford Harbour to galleries & museums, shopping and fine hospitality establishments - Wexford town has a lot to offer.
The seaside resorts of Carne, Curracloe, Rosslare and Kilmore are in close proximity. This makes Wexford the ideal location for your break, whether energetic or relaxing the choice is yours.
