Very obviously a former pub - the name is writ large on the wall in traditional style - Michael Copley's charming gallery and coffee house just west of Kilcrohane offers organic and seasonal refreshments in a quirky setting and makes a great place to take a break when out and about exploring the Sheeps' Head.
With mismatched seating and plenty of colourful plants creating a cheerfully chaotic (and seemingly haphazard) welcoming scene, it would be hard to resist stopping a while to enjoy the simple but promising snacks and refreshment advertised outside the front door.
Inside there's still enough of the traditional bar ambience to start the 'is it or isn't it?' conversation, even down to tables set up around the open fire - a welcome sight on chilly days.
But, aside from the limited but very wholesome fare - Fairtrade tea and coffee (including iced teas and coffees in hot weather), soups, snacks, cakes and 'seasonal fancies', all made with organic ingredients - the main event here is on the walls, where the striking paintings that they have time to work on in the winter months are displayed for sale, along with a few interesting pieces from other local artists and crafts people, including driftwood artworks, jewellery and maybe even designer hats.
Behind the main building, The West Barn has been converted for holding events (music, dancing, painting) and is available to hire as a venue.
A charming and very friendly place.
