Close to the attractive canal-side town of Ballyconnell, this very large hotel is set amongst 300 acres of landscaped grounds and, in the foyer, seating areas are arranged around marble colonnades and a central staircase, flanked by a bar and two restaurants.
Although all this invariably takes first-time visitors by surprise, it is very much the centre of the local community. Fairly recent developments include the addition of a new conference centre, the Ciúin Spa & Wellness Centre, also 60 superior rooms and two presidential suites; all bedrooms have extra-large beds, spacious marble bathrooms and pleasant country views.
Dining choices are offered between the traditional Conall Cearnach Restaurant, the newer continental-style contemporary restaurant, Setanta and gourmet bar food in the Kells Bar - but it is the outstanding leisure facilities that attract the numbers, notably a championship golf course and Country Club (where there is another restaurant, The Summit).
Off-season value breaks. Conference/banqueting (1000/660); secretarial services, video conferencing, broadband wi/fi. Leisure centre (swimming pool, jacuzzi, fitness room, steam room, spa with treatment centre and hairdresser). Golf (18 & 9), tennis, garden, walking, equestrian nearby. Shop. No pets.
