While this riverside hotel may perhaps be visually at odds with the pleasing traditional style of the area, it brings welcome amenities to the town and is always well maintained.
Public areas are quite impressive and rooms are comfortably furnished in an undemanding contemporary style that people feel comfortable with - and there are good facilities for conferences and functions. Bedrooms are comfortable and have all the usual amenities. The recent 22 bedroomed extension has added a touch of luxury with an adult only floor where you’ll find 5 couples deluxe rooms, complete with jacuzzi bath.
Off-season and special interest breaks are offered and there is plenty to do in this beautiful area, including fishing, golf and horse riding.
There is a pleasant riverside path in a linear park beside the hotel and this can be a useful place to break a journey to stretch the legs and have a bite to eat; in the Guide's experience, the food is above average hotel fare and staff are friendly and helpful.
The main restaurant, The Moorings, is open on Friday and Saturday evenings; the Alama Steakhouse is very popular and booking is advised. The Prom Bar, with riverside views, has a large outdoor verandah for those warm days. The wine list, available in all dining areas, is short and mainly European and includes a couple of half bottles and six by the glass.
