Situated almost next to the Holywood Golf Club and Redburn Country Park, and with views across Belfast Lough, the McClellands’ family-run country house is just a 5 minute drive from Belfast City Airport yet it's a tranquil spot in which to unwind, and a fine alternative to impersonal hotels.
It has a long-standing reputation as a relaxing place, known for its friendly staff and extensive breakfasts (including a ‘healthy house grill’, with nothing fried), and the restful option of dining in the restaurant here on some nights rather than having to go out in the evening.
Now in its second generation of family ownership, husband and wife team Conor and Bernie Mc Clelland have built on the reputation established by Conor's parents, and Rayanne has become the destination of choice in the area for many business travellerrs as well leisure guests, who all appreciate the combination of homely comforts, hospitality, professionalism and outstanding food that the Rayanne team provide.
Extensive refurbishment involved the addition of a new wing, carefully designed to blend with the period features of the original house, and some bedrooms have views of Belfast Lough. All are individually decorated to a high standard with big comfy beds and phones, television, hospitality tray and many little extras and, just like home, there are very comfortable rooms for guests to relax in downstairs.
The food at Rayanne has always been good - Conor's late father was also a chef - but Conor has upped the ante in the restaurant where he cooks for up to 30 guests on selected evenings, and which is also open to non-residents by reservation.
His cooking is terrific and who could fail to be impressed by the menus offered, which reflect the seasonal produce of Northern Ireland and include an 8-course Tasting Menu (£65), a seasonal dinner menu with about half a dozen choices on each course (£52) and - the pièce de résistance - a 9-course Titanic Menu, which gives a fascinating insight into life on board the doomed ship....
Friendly staff are exceptionally helpful and make families with children most welcome - and the beach and the shops and restaurants of Holywood are all just a few minutes’ walk away.
A great place to stay - and to dine.
