Right in the centre of Tralee, in the town's bustling main shopping area, this dedicated seafood bar is a cousin business of the famous Quinlan's Fish Shops on the Ring of Kerry.
A two-storey space atmospherically decorated to a striking maritime theme, it is a simply-appointed but comfortable restaurant which doubles as a takeaway - and offers a reasonably priced seasonal selection of sea-fresh fish that is simply cooked to allow the fish itself to star.
The family fishing and processing company, Quinlans Kerry Fish, is based at Caherciveen, and the range of fish and seafood offered varies according to season and availability, but in summer might typically include lobster (very well priced), crab, hake, salmon, plaice, whiting, prawns and squid.
They're famous for their Fish & Chips and this is no ordinary fish & chips, as you can choose between whiting, plaice, haddock, cod, hake or salmon, and the chips are made with freshly chipped potatoes. You can have a salad instead of the chips, if you like, or half and half to make a balanced meal.
Other popular and well-priced dishes include their Valentia Harbour chowder, signature homemade fishcakes, and open sandwiches made with their award wnning oak smoked salmon - also treats including gorgeous deep water Atlantic Prawns, Dingle Bay Wild Squid and Sizzling Crab Claws on Sourdough bread.
Daily specials are up on a board - dishes like Pan-fried Brill with potato chips and garden salad, for example - and well trained staff are always on hand to advise, in fact you can even select your own fish from the wet fish counter and have it cooked specially for you.
