The leading restaurant of the area since opening in 2006, The Oak Room moved into more spacious new premises in 2017, providing a smart modern setting for properietor-chef Norbert Neylon's good cooking.
Wooden floors, bare topped tables with minimal settings, soft lighting, a warm colour scheme and the trademark comfortable seating combine to make this town centre restaurant a pleasant place to dine.
Norbert's background is in fine dining - he was Baileys Euro-Toques Young Chef of the Year in 1997 and experience at establishments like Dromoland Castle and the late lamented Thorntons of Dublin features on his CV - but, although there is still a strong commitment to seasonal local produce and the cooking is excellent, the main emphasis is on offering value for money.
The cooking style is modern Irish and the range of menus includes an 'Early Bird' dinner which offers plenty of choice and terrfric value, and also a children’s menu with ‘real’ food choices such as chicken pasta carbonara, homemade steak burger and homemade chocolate brownies. A blackboard menu offers daily specials - including several tempting fish dishes - and a frequently changed drinks list includes cocktails and some interesting wines at very fair prices.
Delivering on both quality and value, and with knowledgeable, friendly staff, this is an inviting restaurant - and a very useful place to know about when visiting Cavan Town.
