At the foot of Mount Brandon on the Dingle Peninsula, this welcoming fifth-generation family-run pub is right on the pier in Brandon village, with views over Brandon Bay and the mountains.
It's open all year round and you can often get a bite to eat here when other places in the area are closed, but it's one to seek out anyway for its friendliness, relaxed atmosphere and the comfort of an open fire on chilly days or the pleasure of sitting outside and soaking up the view in summer.
The original pub is quite small and cosy, but there's a newer dining area with big windows overlooking the harbour, as well as some outdoor seating and a takeaway hatch. They don't take bookings, but friendly staff keep things moving along very nicely so you shouldn't be too long waiting for food, which you order at the bar - and there's plenty of memorabilia and local history to keep you interested in the meantime. And the food is a perfect match for the surroundings - unpretentious but interesting and very tasty.
Menus offer just what you'd hope to find in a place like this - think an excellent seafood chowder and freshly baked bread, refreshing goats cheese salads, crispy fish and chips - and seriously tempting blackboard specials such as Baked fillet of cod with bouillabaisse sauce, Mediterranean veg & garlic potatoes... The pint of Guinness at Murphy's comes in for high praise but there are local beers and spirits( listed on a blackboard above the bar), and even a simple cup of tea is special here - served in a pot with an old-fashioned knitted tea cosy, it conveys a lot of TLC.
One for the SatNav when visiting Kerry - and also a delight to find by chance.
