On the road to Kilmore Quay, just five minutes away, you can't miss this picturesque seafood restaurant and bar in the charming village of Kilmore. Famed for its pretty thatched cottages, Kilmore has also become a dining destination thanks to Susie Doyle, who has developed Mary Barry's over many years to become the thriving and welcoming establishment that you will find here today.
Since well known local restaurateur and chef Nicky Cullen joined Mary Barry’s to lead the kitchen some years ago, the ante has been well and truly upped.Together with an excellent team (all introduced to visitors with photos and bios on the website), Susie and Nicky are on a mission to keep raising the quality of food and service to new heights.
All tastes are catered for and the menu choice is vast - this can so often be a warning sign, but not at Mary Barry's, where Chef Cullen brings years of experience in compiling a wide choice of dishes and the consistently high quality maintained in this very busy bar-restaurant is remarkable.
Although predominantly geared towards seafood, as some of the best fish in Ireland is landed nearby in Kilmore Quay, this is a place for everyone - menus cover all bases, vegetarian and vegan options are available and children are made especially welcome.
In contrast to the wide choice of food the wine list is compact, offering just 9 white and 8 red, 1 rosé and one each of sparkling/champagne - well-priced and with very good tasting notes - along with other drinks including non-alcoholic beverages.
Imaculately maintained throughout, Mary Barry's is full of character and the very popular old front section fills quickly. But the modern glass-walled, nautically themed Captains Bar, and the recently developed garden area beside it, are equally attractive and the extra space allows the very hospitable team to fit in the many extra guests who arrive without reservations.
Extremely efficiently run and warmly hospitable, this is a restaurant that gives value for money with generous portions and a great dining experience. One to seek out when visiting the area.
