This much-loved old hotel is rich in history and especially famous as the main venue for the annual Listowel Writers Week. Since 1996 the hotel has been in the energetic and discerning ownership of Kevin O’Callaghan, who has overseen a major extension and overhaul of the whole premises during the last few years and also added new bedrooms.
Improvements are invariably done with great sensitivity, bringing greater comfort throughout the hotel without loss of its considerable character. A very attractive banqueting area and bedrooms all overlook the River Feale - and the race course, so these areas are at a premium in Listowel Race Week.
Non-residents find this a handy place to drop into for a bite in the bar, where they serve traditional dishes like braised beef & stout casserole (12.30-9.30) and you can have tea or coffee in the lounge at other times.
