Established over a quarter if a century ago, this well loved store came into new ownership in 2016 when Geoff Caird and Cathy Melvin took it on as a going concern, with Susie Coughlan as chef.
A pleasing display of freshly baked breads immediately attracts the eye and, as well as good home baking, the store offers a good range of organic wholefoods and local produce - and there is also a small but appealing vegetarian café.
It's a handy place to stop for a cup of coffee and a snack selected from their range of freshly baked temptations, or you can have a healthy and reasonably priced lunch here (around €8-9 for a plate of food).
Typical dishes on the daily lunch menu include a wholesome tomato and lentil soup; spinach, mint and pea frittata; spicy bean enchiladas; and ricotta, blue cheese and kale lasagne, which is served with organic green leaves. Pasties and vegetable samosas are especially popular dishes - as is the baked strawberry cheesecake, which is equally appealing as a dessert or as a snack to enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee.
There is no special children's menu, but families are welcome and the food has broad appeal.
With the shop to browse, and plenty to read as you enjoy your food, it's an interesting and pleasant place for lone travellers to call into.
