Just along the shore road towards Galway, Armin and Bernadette Moloney Grefkes' attractive purpose-built accommodation makes a comfortable and moderately-priced base for a break in this lovely area and it is a delightful place to stay.

Being a little outside Ballyvaughan it is less well-known than places in the village, which gives a sense of discovery – you’ll get a friendly welcome from Bernadette and Armin, and guests are invariably delighted by the high standards, comfort and professionalism they offer.

The ground floor is spacious and there’s a comfortable seaview sitting room with an open fire available for guests' use, also a cosy tea room where guests can mingle and exchange tips while helping themselves to a wide variety of speciality teas from Ronnefeldt as well as coffees, cakes etc. The furnishing style is a mixture of old and new, with antiques and newer country furnishings blending well, and everything is spotless and full of character.

The bedrooms, each with an individual theme based on the wild flowers found in the Burren, are lovely, with decent sized beds (made up with blankets rather than duvets, which many guests find a welcome change these days) and sea views across Galway Bay from front rooms, while those at the back have a peaceful outlook over the Burren. All have phones and television – and if you’re feeling stiff after a day out walking, Bernadette will send up a hot water bottle for you! Two rooms on the ground floor are suitable for less able guests, although there are a couple of steps to negotiate at the front door.

Family-friendly and pet-friendly, this makes great base for an active holiday, or just for exploring the area - and they serve a very good breakfast too.

Special comfort, the peace and attention to detail bring guests back to Drumcreehy – and, if you visit in late spring or early summer, you may just hear the cuckoo too.
