The Smith family’s long-established and moderately-priced guesthouse just outside Waterford city is set in one and a half acres of landscaped gardens; it would make a good base for exploring the area, and will appeal to anyone who wants to be quietly located yet handy to the city.
Now run by Ben Smith and his wife Kate, the house has been completely refurbished fairly recently, and most of the well-equipped bedrooms have king-size beds as well as power showers and all the other usual amenities (phone, TV, tea/coffee facilities etc).
With ten courses, including Mount Juliet, within half an hour’s drive it’s ideal for golfing breaks; other sporting activities nearby include fishing and horse riding.
