Funky younger sister to the Neville family's long-established Riverside Park Hotel in Enniscorthy, Crown Quarter opened in 2021 right beside the bridge in the heart of Wexford Town, on the vibrant pedestrianised Monck Street - which will soon boast a retractable roof, no less...
The striking decor and mood lighting make no secret of its intended young market - and, with Wexford’s nightlife on the doorstep, that sector is well catered for. But, perhaps unexpectedly, Crown Quarter is turning out to be a hit with travellers of all ages, who love that shopping, restaurants and everything that Wexford Town has to offer is close by, making it a great (very moderately priced) destination for a relaxing weekend or midweek break away.
Although modern, the higgledy-piggledy nature of the building is very endearing and it comes as no surprise to hear that, having taken on a derelict premises, the owners decided to invest a lot of TLC into it and - rather than taking the easier option, to demolish it and start from scratch - they've retained bucket loads of character in the redevlopment. And, while simply furnished, comfort is to the fore in the smartly decorated guestrooms, which boast terrific beds, coffee machines (and a kettle as well - full marks), 65” TV with Netflix and YouTube, complimentary WiFi and those colour changing lights. Minimalistic (some might say spartan) en-suites feature generous rainfall showers and heated mirrors along with wonderful Irish bath products by Voya.
And, while anyone looking for a traditional breakfast here will be disappointed (it's a room only destination) there's a choice of dining options throughout the day and evening, including Jasper’s restaurant which has its own street entrance and offers locally sourced brunch, lunch and evening menus. Then there's the Crown Bar, which is known for tasty gastro style food menu, weekend entertainment and cocktails; Brew Burger serving "dangerously good burgers and damn fine coffee"; Spice Indian restaurant; and the traditional Kitty’s Bar, offering a quieter and more traditional spot for a drink. At weekends the street comes alive with people having fun, outdoor dining, listening to music and enjoying Wexford’s nightlife, while midweek is more relaxed.
