Monica Phelan’s elegant Georgian house is just 5 miles out of Kilkenny city, surrounded by its own farmland and gardens. It’s easy to spot - there’s a folly in its grounds. It’s a very friendly, welcoming place and the house has an airy atmosphere, with matching well-proportioned dining and drawing rooms on either side of the hall, and the pleasant, comfortably furnished bedrooms in period style all overlook attractive countryside.

Dinner is available to residents, if pre-arranged, and, like the next morning’s excellent breakfast, is taken at the communal mahogany dining table.

The Coach Yard has been renovated to make two self-catering coach houses and one self-catering Gardener’s Cottage and the house can also be rented - an ideal arrangement for groups of 12-20 people, for family get-togethers or other special occasions, where guests may have exclusive use of the house and coach yard.

More recently, a small spa and holistic centre has been added in the coach yard, with a resident therapist. Blanchville is well-situated for golfers (5 great courses within half an hour’s drive, including Mount Juliet).

Special breaks offered include art workshop weekends, and bridge breaks.
