Located in Sligo’s town centre, Pat Grimes's family-run Bistro Bianconi has been a favourite ever since they opened in 1993.
And it’s not hard to see why. Pasta and steaks are a specialty, including their spaghetti Bolognese - which is still being made from the same recipe since they opened nearly 25 years ago - and the pizzas from their wood-fired oven are a particular draw.
You can choose from the classics, such as a Margherita or pepperoni, or get more adventurous with one of their gourmet pizzas, such as the Nero Budino, made with Clonakilty black pudding, grated mozzarella, goat’ s cheese, smokey bacon pieces, chopped spring onions, topped with Parmesan or their signature Michelangelo pizza, with caramelised onions, pepperoni and goats’ cheese topped with basil pesto and Parmesan. Over 40 wines are on offer to round out the experience.
An early bird menu is available all week from 5pm to 6:30pm for €19.95 for two courses, or you can add a dessert for only €6.00. The children’s menu is very good value and they also offer a takeaway menu as well. The restaurant is very popular and busy, even during midweek, so bookings are recommended.
Service is genuinely warm, friendly and chatty and the staff will do everything they can to make you feel at home. Combined with the tasty food and buzzing atmosphere, it all adds up to a thoroughly enjoyable meal.
